Looking For Help For a Website?

Looking For Help For a Website?

Are you a newbie to WordPress? Is putting up widgets driving you mad? Do you find it almost impossible to add a plugin without messing up anything in your page? Or, do you know so little about establishing web presence you have not even figured out yet what plugins are?

The good news is that if it’s help for website mastering that you need, this is help that you can easily get. Information is available, especially if it’s information on making your own site that you are looking for. Forget paying hundreds or thousands of dollars to web designers who will take forever to understand your concept or get it right. There are many resources you can find online, and all of them show you how to do things yourself.

Is it your first time to set up a webpage? If so, I’ll be blunt. The problem with most tutorials is that they are not written for noobs. They are not written for first-time users who do not even know what a CMS or Content Management System is or what it’s for. You will find that many of the resources claiming to provide help for website owners do anything but. The real deal is simple: most of the tutorials you will find or have found thus far are too complex for you to follow on your own, with concrete results.

For tutorials to really be of help for website owners, they have to be easy to understand, easy to use, and easy to implement on your own. They should be written in a language that is user-friendly; and must contain information so useful they allow you to hit the ground running, even with the little knowledge that you know. Are resources of that kind available? Of course! It’s only a matter of finding them fast, and finding them the soonest.

Easy Installation of WordPress Blog Plugins

Easy Installation of WordPress Blog Plugins

Plugins allow you to add functions and features to your blog. These can make your blog easier for you to use as the blogger or better for your readers. Fortunately WordPress has now made finding and loading plugins as easy as 1, 2, 3.

1 Finding WordPress Blog Plugins

Just log in to your WordPress dashboard. In the left hand menu is the word plugins. Click that box and a drop down menu will appear, and from there you will click add new.

Off to the right a new box will appear. The tag cloud contains the most popular searches. You have quite a choice there, which can be quite helpful if you are not certain what term you need. If you like one of those terms, click it, if not type your term in the search box above. You can also type in a tag or the name of the author of the plugin.

2 Choosing WordPress Blog Plugins

Now you should have a list of plugins from which you can choose. You can see the name of the plugin and how many stars it is rated. On the right is a short description and the author’s name. Read the description to make certain the plugin matches your needs. If it does, click install, a new window will appear.

This new window will tell you even more about the plugin. These statistics are very important. Shown as days ago, you can read when it was last updated. You can also read how many people have downloaded it. How many people gave it the current star rating and more description. You can check to see if it compatible with your version.

Some plugins will have additional pages you can check before installation. There may be screenshots, which are really helpful if you have seen your plugin but not certain of the name. You can also see a link outside to the plugin home page and the author’s home page.

3 Installation of WordPress Blog Plugins

Here comes the hard part. See that install button? Yes that one, click it, then activate. You just installed it. Easy right?

You may need to adjust the settings on some plugins. Plugins can appear in a variety of places, fortunately on the “Installed” page; which is under plugins, they often have a link to settings. If not they may be on the main dashboard, or underneath either settings or tools. You may also need to add them to widgets which is under Appearance.

With three easy steps you can install plugins on your WordPress Blog.

The Most Important Elements of Web Design

The Most Important Elements of Web Design

Web design involves various basic principles and elements which need to be tackled in the right way for getting desirable results. These elements show how to put together a website that is attractive, efficient as well as aesthetically pleasing. Designing a website is not about slapping a few HTML tags and a few graphics together. It involves detailed research to bring together useful and pleasing design.

Balance

Balance in web design refers to equally distribute light and heavy elements on a single page. Concentrating on the page layout and creating a visual balance will achieve great results. A symmetrical look can be achieved when you place all your elements evenly on the page. Heavy elements on the left may be matched by placing one on the right side of the page. However, if not done right it may look boring or very flat. Asymmetrical may be a little challenging but the right look can be achieved by varying color, image positioning, size and texture. A discordant site will suggest motion and action but these can be a little uncomfortable for visitors.

Contrast

Contrast involves contrasting textures, sizes and shapes. You can change font family, weight and size to create textural contrast. The sizes of other elements and images can also be changed. However, the contrasting colors must not be too loud. Instead, focus on effectively contrasting the links in the content to draw attention of the readers and to get the most beneficial results.

Emphasis

Emphasis in web design refers to creating main points where the visitors would be drawn to. Having everything stand out on a page will simply make the page lose its emphasis. Instead, create visual hierarchy in your design and only focus on emphasizing the right elements. You can use contrasting colors, change in font size or image size in order to create emphasis.

Rhythm

Repetition or rhythm will bring in consistency in the design. Most design elements can be repeated for creation of pleasing consistency. Headline can be repeated, image can be repeated a few times through the page, repetitive elements may be used in the background for design consistency.

A good design company should know and understand all of these elements well. If you are planning to create your own websites, keeping each of these elements in mind will provide you efficient results. The resulting website will be attractive, effective and will look pleasing to your visitors. Lastly, the design should be able to unite all of the above mentioned elements in order to create a look of harmony instead of having elements that clash with each other. Keeping these points in mind while tackling a web design project will provide much better results rather than a haphazard design.

WordPress Templates Help Save Costs

WordPress Templates Help Save Costs

When you are starting a new website, you may be wondering if you should engage a designer to help you with your design. Brand is very important. So you certainly need some help in creating the ideal look. But before you spend hundreds of dollars hiring a designer, do check out some other options.

One popular option is to use a free content management system. When you buy web hosting, your hosting provider will usually provide you with tons of free software and scripts. These are not poor quality scripts. They are open source scripts, which means that anyone can use them for free. A popular choice would be WordPress.

WordPress is a blogging platform. But it can be modified to become a useful website CMS. If you are thinking of starting a blog, then you don’t even need to do any modifications. All you need is the right theme.

WordPress allows you to install as many themes as you like. As long as a theme is installed, you can choose the theme from the admin control panel. It’s just point and click, and the entire look and feel of the website can be changed instantly.

When choosing a proper theme, it’s always better to choose one that fits your niche. For instance, if you are starting a gambling website, then you may wish to download gambling themes. These templates come with appropriate graphics and you don’t even need to lift a finger to create the design yourself. Everything has been done for you. If there are one or two elements that you are unhappy with, you can always fire up your favorite image editing software and make some simple modifications. That’s still faster than having to create a brand new design from scratch.

A CMS is very useful if you have the intention of growing the website from day one. It helps you to manage the content, and keeps everything well organized. If there are any changes to the designs, you can do so just by choosing another theme, or by modifying the existing template.

However, some webmasters just want to setup a simple website with a few pages of content. In this case, a CMS may be an overkill and unnecessary. A simple HTML template may be all that is required to get the job done.

Having a HTML template means that the overall design will adopt a more consistent look. Whenever you want to post a new page, just use the existing template, replace the contents, and save the file as a new web page. Then upload the page to the server using an FTP software.

Note that there are more steps needed to publish an HTML page if you use a HTML template instead of a CMS. If you are using a CMS, all you need to do is to login to your admin account and post a new web page. No FTP software and no uploading is required.

Whether you …

Build a Professional and Profitable Website in 1 Hour

Build a Professional and Profitable Website in 1 Hour

Are you one of the millions of people who need a website, but don’t know where to start? Maybe you’ve gone as far as getting a quote from a so-called web professional only to find out that a basic website is going to cost you more than your first car?

Allow me to let you in on a little secret: you could be building pages on your very own website in less than an hour, for less than $100. What’s more, you’ll be using the same technology as the experts, and you’ll save yourself thousands!

Here are the three things you’re going to need to build your first website:

1) Domain Name – your domain name identifies your website, so it should be easy to remember and contain relevant keywords. Until you have a little more experience, only look at “dot com” domains, without numbers or hyphens. Domains are leased, not bought, so they must be re-registered each year. There’s a huge range of domain registrars, but don’t buy one yet – the right web host will register your first domain for free.

2) Hosting Account – your hosting account is where you store your website. You should only ever need one web host; with the right host, you can store as many websites are you like, with unlimited emails, storage space and bandwidth. Unfortunately, some web hosts aren’t as reliable as others, so the best way to chose one is on the recommendation of someone who uses it themselves.

3) Content Management System – a content management system allows you to build web pages without having to learn any programming languages or HTML. It’s just like using a word processor, but when you click the save button, you’ve built a new web page! On top of that, you have total control over your website at all times. Never again will you have to wait for someone else to update your website for you, and have to pay them for the pleasure of doing so!

The best software to use is WordPress. It’s typically known as blog software, but with a little tweaking, we can turn it into a fully functional content management system. WordPress is easy to use, completely customizable, and – best of all – it builds search engine-friendly web pages. Your website will start getting visitors from day one.

Finally, generate a passive income from the visitors to your website by signing up to Google AdSense. This program displays ads, relevant to the content on your website, on each of your web pages. Any time a visitor clicks on one of the ads, Google pays you!

It really is that simple! You could be working on your new website just one hour from now!

How To Identify Potential WordPress Hacks

How To Identify Potential WordPress Hacks

While WordPress is typically a secure and stable platform, it can fall victim to hackers when not maintained, or when poorly developed or outdated plugins are used.

One of the more common methods for hackers to hide the malicious PHP code inserted in to WordPress is to base64 encode the hacked code, and then use base64 decoding and eval() to execute the code at runtime. (If this has already exceeded your level of knowledge in PHP or WordPress, consult a qualified website developer or WordPress expert for assistance.)

Fortunately for WordPress users, base64 code is relatively easy to spot in PHP code, and looks similar to the following:

Since base64 encoding appears as a long string of random alphanumeric characters, it stands out within the PHP code. Typically, this encoding is used by a hacker to embed PHP code within WordPress to output links, redirect users to specific sites, and is worse cases, allow unauthorized access to the WordPress system and database.

While it is possible to manually search your WordPress theme code for base64 code, there are some plugins available that help scan and detect potentially malicious code for you. One of the more popular plugins is BulletProof Security, which is designed to protect a WordPress website against XSS, RFI, CRLF, CSRF, Base64, Code Injection and SQL Injection hacking attempts.

While using a plugin such as this is more effective at securing a WordPress site than relying on manual inspection, it is critically important to review your WordPress theme and WordPress installation on a recurring basis. Understanding how your WordPress site is designed and configured will help you to more readily identity situations in which the site is not functioning normally. It will also become easier for you to spot changes in code structure that may indicate that malicious code has been injected in to the WordPress theme.

If you operate a WordPress site as part of a small business, or depend on site traffic as part of your ongoing web marketing campaign or membership drive, consider retaining a professional web consultant with WordPress security experience to review your WordPress installation. One malicious plugin can ruin the hard-earned reputation of a WordPress website, and cause membership levels to plummet. An experienced WordPress security consultant can quickly and easily locate, remove, and repair the damage caused by malicious PHP or JavaScript code, and help to prevent such issues from reoccurring in the future.

10 Tips For Beginner Web Designers

Those of you who may not be familiar with the details of beginner web designers, may find it overwhelming when approaching a web design project.

However, beginner web designers doesn’t have to be dramatically different in approach than projects and with the right other creative processes in place it can be more manageable.

Here are 10 tips that will help you get started with your new design projects and give you a clear better feel so you don’t get stuck and overwhelmed with prospects when designing a website. And these ideas can be applied to other creative projects as well.

1. Create a Design Brief

One of the biggest mistakes that designers make, whether working on web design projects or any other type of assignment, is not getting a brief early in the process. Having a design brief and knowing what project is supposed to be accomplished and what the expectations are can make all the difference the project you can handle and what methods you use to implement it.

2. Create Comp or Wire-frame

Too often designers jump straight to a computer and a blank slate at the start of their work. The result is a lot of time wasted trying to decide what to do next. If you start a project with a “road map,” it’s very easy to get straight to work and be more productive. Consider using either pencil and paper or a mobile app like Adobe Comp CC to develop a basic layout for what the website should look like. You can always continue working in Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop to create something detailed enough for client approval.

3. Understanding the Site’s First Structure

Having a layout for your site is a good start, but knowing how the internal structure of the pages will relate to one another can be even more rewarding. When you know how many pages your site has, how many different layouts you need, and what the relationships between the pages are, it can add clarity to you. Knowing this, you can work from the beginning with the end in mind and avoid duplicating back to correct your mistakes. Adding new pages or alternative layouts can also be easier.

4. Gather Assets and Resources First

Before you start work, have one of the required logos, a photo and an ideal copy of text. This means you won’t be building something that has to figure out how to align it with other assets later on. As a result, your website will feel more intentional and consistent. Ask these things in front of your clients and emphasize how important they are for you to get to work and get them done in an efficient manner.

5. Focus on Responsive Design

Mobile device experiences are a problem for us more as consumers than they have been in the past. Our first experiences of a website are often on mobile devices now. Many web designers are coders who don’t like Adobe Dreamweaver, but one of …
