When you are teaching students in high school the action that you deal with mostly is inappropriate behavior as well as reduced study skills. When the practice is right it will be nice if you reward them.
Reinforcement such us social, exercise, physical, consumable and harmful strengthening should be applied in making sure that the rules are followed. Instead if giving physical reward when someone has good behavior provide those tokens every time they are right. The symbols can be used later to backup reinforcement. But if you are dealing with older students the best reinforce using contingency contracts. These types of deals are a decision that both you and the student agree on, saying what reward they will get if they have good behavior. Shaping is a way that you use to prepare good action in small steps. This technique can either be used to guide new behavior or reinforce the ones that already exist.
Use models to show the kind of behavior that you need from the student. In order for the rest of the students to understand when one of them has good behavior use them as an example. In the presence of the other classmates teach a student who has behaved wrongly so that the rest can learn. If you do this it will work even for the students meaning you will have achieved more. The students should take part in the program of improving their behavior by creating goals, preventing situations that could affect their behavior, assessing themselves and knowing how they should be rewarded for their excellent response. Parents should not be left out when it comes to behavior management programs.
